Hello, I'm Ms. Sharon. After spending my career working with children in a variety of venues, I've learned that they enjoy being challenged and doing things that make them feel good about themselves. I believe that there is greatness in every child and that all children should be celebrated.
Jr. Giants Speak began as an internet radio show for children that provided them an opportunity to display their gifts and talents. It has evolved into a program to equip children with skills they need to advance in their lives.
In the story of David and Goliath, I believe that David was the real giant. He took what he had and did what he needed to do. This same principle applies to all children once they know what they have in their hands. David carried five smooth stones as weapons to defeat his enemy. Jr. GIANTS has five building stones:
These stones represent the heart and character of the children. My expectation of the young people I work with is high but reachable. It requires that they challenge themselves by being courageous, while allowing their curiosity to take them to new heights. Structure is necessary and even desired; which is why control is an essential building stone that encourages self discipline.
The value of our children has yet to be fully realized. It is imperative that we instill in them their own sense of value. There is greatness in each child that is in seed form waiting to be watered and nurtured. I have been given the privilege of helping them to see their worth and offer them tools that will insure their successful growth. In a society where children are becoming increasingly connected to devices, they are not as skilled in basic human interaction. The skills presented will address this and ensure they develop their own set of tools which will allow them to maneuver through their lives with more confidence and independence.
As a professionally trained and experienced Life Coach, it is my mission to assist children, adolescents and young adults in developing tools which can be used to navigate effectively throughout their lives. Our children deserve to have the best life possible and the way to insure that is to help them gain a level of confidence that only comes with knowing how to handle the situations they face. They need to know how to make solid decisions, how to manage their anger or communicate effectively. Knowing which of their skills to use could be the difference between success and failure.
Committing to a healthier lifestyle is just that – a commitment. Developing a standard of behavior is vital because it provides helpful guidelines for conducting ones self. 'I AM MY FIRST PRIORITY' is a standard of behavior. Simply put, this means that we are 'learning' to do what is in our best interest. This does not promote selfishness but self-regulation and self-care. Children, youth and young adults, are very connected to their friends and what they think, but that isn't always in their best interest. 'I AM MY FIRST PRIORITY' encourages independent thought and healthy decision making.
The Peanut Butter & Jelly Skills Conference is designed to present life skills in a relaxed and fun filled setting. The skills presented are selected based on the identified needs of the youth attending the conference.
The conference is broken into sessions in which the Jr. Coaches present the skills. Once the skills have been taught, role playing is used to help the participants gain a more realistic idea of how to use the skills in life-like scenarios. Using role playing allows the group to get and give useful feedback. A Q&A session winds down the conference so that those attending are clear on the skills presented. The book, 'The ABC's of Living Skillfully', is available for purchase and the participants are encouraged to work on a new skill every week.
With a focus on training, Jr. Giants Speak works to train both the youth and any staff that will be working with the youth once the conference is over. Follow up and refresher classes can be arranged.
(***Due to Covid-19 all conferences will be held on Zoom)
